Villa of the Mosaics of Spello
The Villa of the Mosaics in Spello is one of the most extraordinary archaeological discoveries in Umbria. The nearly 500 square metres recovered include ten rooms with amazing mosaic floors of geometric decorations, wild and fantastic animals, human figures and scenes of life. The art collection is located in the rooms of the Palazzo dei Canonici. The works on display include some magnificent examples of Gothic and Baroque jewellery, an interesting section of Medieval and Renaissance wooden sculpture and paintings ranging from the late 13th to the 18th Century with some superb examples: a triptych by the Master of the Assumption of Amelia, a diptych by Cola Petruccioli, some panels of the choir by Zaccaria di Filippo Mazzola, brother of the more famous Mannerist painter Parmigianino, and a splendid fresco by Andrea d’Assisi called Ingegno.

VISITE GUIDATE
The operator will guide visitors to discover the rooms of the Villa by telling the story of the archaeological discovery and outlining its historical and architectural aspects. The functions of the various rooms, the refinement of the mosaic details and the wall decorations will be described. Finally, the past of extraordinary wealth and opulence of the Villa in Roman times will be recalled through the testimony of the mosaics.

The visitor will be accompanied to discover the frescoes of the paintings, statuary and sacred objects present in the eight rooms of the Pinacoteca, thus discovering the sacred and the artistic influences that have animated the cultural and religious life of Spello over the centuries.

HOW TO GET TO
VILLA DEI MOSAICI Spello (PG), in Via Paolina Schicchi Fagotti, n ° 7. CIVIC and DIOCESAN ART GALLERY Spello (PG), in the Cortile dei Due Campanili, Piazza G. Matteotti. FROM FLORENCE: take the A1 motorway, exit at Valdichiana, take the SS.75 Bis del Trasimeno which runs along the lake of the same name. Continue to Perugia / Ponte San Giovanni towards Foligno. Exit at Spello. FROM CESENA: take the E45 freeway, pass San Sepolcro, Città di Castello, Umbertide, until you reach the Collestrada junction, continue towards Foligno, exit at Spello. FROM ROME: take the A1 motorway, exit at Orte and take the direction of Terni / Spoleto continue towards Foligno, then immediately exit at Spello. FROM ROME: take the A1 motorway, exit at Orte and, before arriving in Terni, take the E45 highway that will take you to Perugia Ponte San Giovanni. Continue towards Foligno, then exit at Spello. IN SPELLO: follow the signs for the city centre up to Via Martin Luther King, where there is a large car park
